How do I transfer my data from my current smartphone?

Switching to UP Phone is simple and supported. Securely transfer contacts, passwords and your photo library from your previous device to your UP Phone over your local network Wi-Fi connection.

UP Switch comes preinstalled out of the box making the migration from iPhone or Google Android to UP Phone streamlined and easy.

Does UP Phone have the apps I use?

Yes! Our updated App Hub (formerly UP Store) has a new interface with smarter navigation, new features and categories to help you find the apps you love and try new ones.

Additionally, Unplugged's new Compatibility Layer technology makes available tens of thousands of new apps in the larger Android ecosystem.

What's not available?
Some apps are inseparably dependent on Google Mobile Services (GMS) or Apple's technology and do not function as expected outside  those ecosystems. To uphold our customers privacy and user experience, we do not support these apps.

What about messaging?

The most secure messaging apps are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) as the plaintext messages not being accessible to the developers of the apps. The most secure messaging apps are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) as the plaintext messages not being accessible to the developers of the apps.

Pair messaging apps like Signal, Threema, Element, Wire, Telegram (in E2EE mode), WhatsApp and others with the UP Phone to achieve secure messaging. All are available to download from App Hub.

Traditional text messaging is limited to SMS messaging capabilities, and it is not secure. When your conversations must be private and kept away from your cellular carriers, use apps like those recommended above – not traditional texting. Future development: RCS support is coming.

What carriers are supported?

In the United States, UP Phone works with AT&T and T-Mobile and their respective MVNOs.

We support many carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile and MVNOs like Patriot Mobile, Pond Mobile, Mint, PureTalk, Really and more. UP Phone supports both physical SIM and eSIM options.

In Canada, UP Phone works on the "big three": Rogers Wireless, Telus Mobility and Bell Mobility and all of their respective MVNO carriers.

Need to know more?

Designed to optimize privacy at every level, UP Phone integrates proprietary hardware and software like no other smartphone to protect customer privacy. With an on-device Firewall, multi-layered privacy protections, a refreshed UnpluggedOS, and an all-new user experience, UP Phone sets an entirely new standard for privacy with a device that is easy to use out of the box.

UP Phone is designed to secure your data and protect your privacy. While most smartphones encrypt data, their operating systems are part of larger ecosystems designed to collect, analyze, and monetize personal information. Other phones are also vulnerable to apps that track activity behind the scenes.

UP Phone mitigates these vulnerabilities through the UnpluggedOS and tools. There simply is no mechanism to extract or analyze your data. Additionally, UP Phone gives you more transparency and control when it comes to third-party apps. You’ll have greater visibility into how apps behave and what data they access, helping you make informed decisions about what you install and use.

UP Phone is designed to work with all major carrier networks in the U.S. and Canada. Currently, UP Phone works with many carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and the Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) such as Patriot Mobile, Pond Mobile, Mint, PureTalk, Really, and more, which use the AT&T or T-Mobile infrastructure. Some even use both.

UP Phone is not certified to operate on Verizon's Network or on their dependent MVNOs.

In Canada, UP Phone works with the "big three" — Rogers Wireless, Telus Mobility, and Bell Mobility — as well as all of their respective MVNO carriers.

Not yet. Certification for the Verizon network and all associated MVNOs which use the Verizon infrastructure is coming and on our road map. However, the process is both more involved and more costly than getting onto the other networks. We do not yet have a specific timeline to support Verizon on UP Phone.
