Unplugged Veterans Initiative: Focusing on the Individual
Learn more about the partnership between Valor Mission Project and Unplugged
As part of our Veterans Day commemoration and new Unplugged Veterans initiatives, we sought out a charitable partner doing something special for veterans’ health and well-being, and Valor Mission Project quickly rose to the top of the organizations we considered.
Their values, approach and assessment of individual needs very much reflect our own. For every regular-priced UP Phone sold during this one-week period, (without the ‘VETERANS’ discount of $175), we will donate $50 to this special organization.
Valor Mission Project is a Texas-based non-profit with a stated mission of ending the mental health crisis that affects veterans. They are dedicated to empowering veterans, first responders, and the "quiet professionals" of the Special Activities Center* in the intelligence community through strategic fundraising initiatives and financial scholarships.
Valor Mission Project + Unplugged
Valor’s Executive Director Jimmy Mac said, “When we connected with representatives from Unplugged, I knew it would be a great fit for a partnership with Valor Mission Project, because I could see that their approach—to helping each customer get technical help and restore digital dignity—was so similar to our approach in helping veterans. Both Unplugged and Valor are deeply focused on the individual and changing lives one-by-one. They’ve engrained the ‘Golden Rule’ into their business. We are honored to have Unplugged’s financial support and association.”
How did Valor get started?
Although founded in 2020, the organization traces its roots to the annual, flagship charitable fundraiser, the Boot’n & Shoot’n sporting clay event, luncheon and auction which got its start at the Dallas Gun Club in 2012. The event brings together business supporters, veterans, and community members for a day of sport, celebration, and giving.
The event has grown to include up to 90 four–person shooting teams each paired with a military veteran teammate. Over the years, the event has raised more than $10 million dollars and has become extraordinarily successful.
Valor Mission Project was cofounded by Stewart Hunter, Chad Fleming, Jim McMahan and Jimmy Mac. They formed the nonprofit to bring year-round organization and to expand on the success of Boot'n & Shoot'n and multiply the number of people they can serve, as they became aware of so much pressing need. With their growth, the benefits and success stories multiplied as well.
How do these funds get used?
