Unplugged is thrilled to announce the launch of our Firmware Beta Program for UP Phone users! This program offers you an exclusive opportunity to experience the latest firmware updates before they’re officially released to the public. As a beta participant, you can help shape the future of the UP Phone by testing new features and sharing your valuable feedback.
How to Join the Firmware Beta Program
Participating in the beta program is simple and accessible to all UP Phone users:
- Ensure your UP Phone has the latest version of the Firmware Manager app installed.
-
Open the Firmware Manager and rapidly tap the Unplugged logo 7 times. After accepting the Warning message this will reveal the hidden Beta Menu.
-
In the Beta Menu, check the box to enable beta channel.
-
Review and accept the Beta Program terms and conditions.
-
Check if new beta firmware is available.
Once enabled, you’ll be eligible to receive beta firmware updates as they become available. These updates will include detailed release notes to guide you through the new features and improvements.
What to Expect from Beta Firmware
Beta firmware updates are designed to be stable but may still carry a small risk of certain features not functioning as intended. By opting into the beta program, you agree to take this risk in exchange for early access to new developments.
Before accepting an update, please review the release notes. The release notes will indicate what kind of firmware update is available. There are two types of updates in the Firmware Beta Program:
- Beta Updates: These are stable builds meant for testing new features and functionality. While they are generally reliable, some bugs or quirks may still be present.
-
Release Candidate (RC) Updates: These are near-final builds, typically released a few days before becoming the official firmware. They represent a very stable version, and unless critical issues are found, they’re expected to transition to the public release seamlessly.
Important Notes for Beta Participants
-
No Rollback Option: Beta firmware updates generally cannot be rolled back to a previous version.
-
Future Updates: Beta firmware will always be eligible for an upgrade to the next official firmware release.
-
Automatic Updates: The automatic firmware update check in the Firmware Manager only checks for official firmware versions. To install beta or RC updates, you’ll need to check manually through the Beta Menu.
